Owl is an anthropomorphic owl who first appeared in the first book Winnie the Pooh, published on October 14, 1926. His big screen debut was in Disney's animated short, Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree (February 4, 1966). Owl's character is based on the stereotype of the "wise old owl", though his "wisdom" is sometimes questionable. - Disney Wiki & Enchanted100AcreWoods
Background
Owl was hatched in a tree near Eeyore's Gloomy Place in the Hundred Acre Wood. He recalled his mother scraping into the bark to literally mark the occasion. Owl currently resides at the top of a tree. In Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day, Owl's house was knocked down by the strong winds. He later moved into Piglet's house, but subsequent media depicts Owl still living in his original treehouse.
Owl comes from an extremely large family, with a colorful history. Nearly every situation that Owl finds himself in can be related to a specific story regarding one of his relatives—this often prompts Owl to ramble on about his ancestors, much to the boredom of his friends. Owl has several portraits of his relatives displayed throughout his home.
Like Rabbit, Owl is traditionally portrayed as a real animal, as opposed to a stuffed toy belonging to Christopher Robin (regardless, he has been depicted as a stuffed owl in Christopher's room in several films). -Disney Fandom
Personality
Owl is considered by most to be the smartest resident of the Hundred Acre Wood. He is known for talking about his many relatives and tends to tell long, drawn-out stories, which tend to bore the others. He has a calm, serious demeanor, but has been known to be happy-go-lucky. He speaks a Strong Southern English with a Strong Southern English accent. -Winniepedia
Owl is an intellectual, having read the entire Encyclopedia Britannica (except for the letter J, which never arrived). However, he can be a bit bird-brained, as twice he misread messages from Christopher Robin and believed the boy was in danger, causing unnecessary worry in and danger to Pooh and friends.
1997, Pooh's Grand Adventure: The Search For Christopher Robin, when Owl misread a honey-smudged note, thinking CR was at "skull". A reasonable mistake.
1988 The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (TV)
Owl: "Looks like you've got quite the problem there!" than actually provide good advice to Pooh or Rabbit on how to get him out, Owl mostly just observes and argues with Gopher.
Owl is flying when a flock of ducks appear and he runs into one of them. Owl is offended and remarks "Owls always have the right of way over the common ordinary waterfowl."
2002: After The Book of Pooh and educational specials, Owl ceased to appear in other Disney productions, thus becoming the only main character of A.A. Milne’s books not appearing in the CGI series My Friends Tigger & Pooh.
2003: Piglet's Big Movie
Piglet goes missing! Pooh and Rabbit ask Owl if he has seen Piglet anywhere only to have Owl give the most general of answers. Rabbit quickly realizes Owl isn't going to be very helpful and starts walking away, while Owl continues to drone on. Not much help...

2011 Winnie the Pooh (Movie)
Owl: Artistic talent runs through my family. In fact, it practically stampedes.
From 2011 on, Owl is portrayed as an egotistical, pretentious, and obsessive character. He's often heard making comments along the lines of "I'm far too important...", and views himself above the rest of the Hundred Acre Woods gang. Even so, he's still well-meaning and does his best to use whatever intelligence he holds for the happiness of his friends.
